The calm before the storm. The Chosen vs. The Resistance. Twenty-four issues in and East of West is still one of the best comic books being written. Ezra Orion has written a message to the Chosen. He’s sent them scrolls, written from the back skin of some sacrifices, asking them to meet him at Armistice.
Hickman’s story is very dense and is sometimes hard to keep up with, but do yourself the favor and get involved. I won’t spoil much here, but we are nearing a climax of this epic story. Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin have gotten better each issue. The colors and pencils give the book an almost anime feel, especially the character’s faces. The inking is top notch and some of the best in comics today.
Hickman is the king of the long payoff. Each issue he writes, while rewarding the attentive reader along the way, builds towards something great. This issue continues that trend and is a nice spark to the upcoming bomb that’s coming.
